Step 2 Stories: Lauren

03 Jun 2021

Lauren first met Step 2 when she was in school.

Lauren says:

“I chose Step 2 to volunteer with as they had helped me when I was younger and I wanted to help other people in the same way. I enjoyed what I was doing, and my work at Step 2 helped me to realise that I was good at working with young people. I then decided to make a career out of it, started my youth work training, and was offered 2 part time jobs working with young people.”

She was referred for the BUMPS course, she loved the course and got on well with the staff. Following this, she regularly attended Step 2 drop-ins for advice around sexual health. She also became a great ambassador for Step 2, regularly bringing friends to access the service.

After having her son, she was unsure what she wanted to do with herself. She visited Step 2 to discuss her options, and soon became a volunteer with Step 2. Straight away she started developing great relationships with young people, who loved having her as part of the sessions. From there she developed a love of working with Young People.

Lauren got help in looking for work and gained so much experience on the way. She used that experience to gain paid employment for Bradford Youth Service and Bradford College.
